Lá Spraoi na Gaeilge Dé Sathairn 11 Bealtaine!

Tá Lá Spraoi na Gaeilge á eagrú i Leitir Ceanainn ag Glór na nGael i gcomhpháirt le Líonra Leitir Ceanainn don 11 Bealtaine 2024. Ócáid mhór do theaghlaigh agus do phobal Gaeilge an Iarthuaiscirt a bheidh ann le tráthnóna sultmhar lán imeachtaí i lár an bhaile.

Bhí rath ar an ócáid céanna a d'eagraigh Glór na nGael i gCathair na Gaillimhe in 2023 agus i gCathair Chorcaigh i 2022. D'fhreastal breis agus 400 duine idir óg agus aosta ar an dá lá. Tabharfaidh Lá Spraoi na Gaeilge deis do theaghlaigh agus don phobal tráthnóna taitneamhach saor in aisce a chaitheamh trí Ghaeilge.

Cuirfear fáilte roimh dhaoine ar gach aois a bheith i láthair ag an ócáid a thosóidh ar 12:00 meán lae. Cuirfidh Colm Feiritéar ó Ruaille Buaille ar Highland Radio tús leis an lá agus borradh faoin chraic nuair a seolfaidh sé é go hoifigiúil.

Beidh na himeachtaí éagsúla ar siúl i lár an bhaile, sa Leabharlann, ag Cearnóg an Mhargaidh, Halla Eaglais na hÉireann, Halla an Ionad Tréadaí, Oifig Líonra Leitir Ceanainn agus carrchlós Mheánscoil Loreto. Beidh imeacht ann do gach duine agus moltar do dhaoine a bheith réidh chun pé Gaeilge atá acu a úsáid agus iad páirteach sa spraoi.

Beidh páirceáil teoranta ar fáil gar do na hionaid éagsúla mar sin iarrtar ar dhaoine úsáid a bhaint as na carrchlóis i lár an bhaile.

Seo an tríú huair don rannóg Teanga Tí de chuid Ghlór na nGael lá mar seo a eagrú agus beidh fáilte roimh dhaoine a bheith ann le sult agus spraoi a bhaint as an Ghaeilge. Tá clú ar Leitir Ceanainn, Baile Seirbhíse Gaeltachta mar áit a chuireann fáilte roimh an Ghaeilge agus tá neart teaghlaigh sa cheantar ag tógáil clainne le Gaeilge agus páistí acu ag freastal ar na Gaelscoileanna. Tabharfaidh an tráthnóna deis do chách, idir sean is óg, teacht le chéile chun an Ghaeilge a cheiliúradh.

Beidh an ócáid lán le spraoi agus cluichí, ceol, ceardlanna agus níos mó. Beidh seastáin eolais ann chun aird a tharraingt ar thacaíochtaí agus seirbhísí Gaeilge. Beidh siamsaíocht sráide le Giggles agus Orson Sterritt, ceardlann ar scileanna sorcais agus seó sorcais le Stephen Mc Ginley, ceardlann drámaíochta le hEoghan Mac Giolla Bhrighde, seó puipéad le Little Gem Puppets, scéalaíocht le Suzanne Ní Ghallchóir, ceardlann damhsa le damhsa traidisiúnta na hÉireann ‘s na hAifrice le Tura Arutura agus go leor leor eile.

Beidh imeacht ar leith ar an lá nuair a sheolfaidh aoi speisialta Seosamh Mac Seoin, láithreoir Chúla 4 Clár Spraoi do Ghrúpaí Súgartha. Is clár gníomhaíochtaí à la carte do ghrúpaí súgartha é an foilseachán nua seo inar féidir míreanna a roghnú as 120 gníomh faoi 30 téama. Ba í Suzy Uí Ghallachóir, arb as Leitir Ceanainn di agus atá i mbun gnó Na Tootsies Beaga, a scríobh an leabhar do Ghlór na nGael. Beidh sé ina áis iontach do ghrúpa súgartha Gaeilge agus teaghlaigh araon agus beidh ceardlann ag Suzy ar an lá le cuid de na gníomhaíochtaí ón leabhar a thriall.

Le dlaoi mhullaigh a chur leis an lá, seolfar an cluiche is úire atá forbartha ag Siopa Údar, Monopoly na nÓg, ag an ócáid. Le hurraíocht ó COGG, tá leagan Gaeilge den chluiche cáiliúil seo anois ar fáil do pháistí don chéad uair riamh. Cuirfidh sé go mór leis an réimse iontach de chluichí Gaeilge atá forbartha ag Siopa Údar thar na blianta agus áis den scoth a bheidh ann do mhúinteoirí, do choistí pobail, do chlubanna óige agus do theaghlaigh.

Lá Spraoi na Gaeilge,

A family fun day to celebrate the Irish language will take place in Letterkenny town centre on Saturday 11 May 2024 from 12:00 to 16:00. Glór na nGael is organising this event in partnership with Líonra Leitir Ceanainn. The day will provide a variety of fun Irish language activities for Irish speakers in the Northwest to spend an enjoyable afternoon together.

This is the first time that a day like this has been organised by the Teanga Tí department of Glór na nGael in Letterkenny and all will be welcome at the event. Previous events in Galway in 2023 and Corcaigh in 2022 attracted more than 400 people, both young and old. The event will offer events free of charge and an opportunity to families and people of all ages to spend an afternoon together.

The event will start at 12:00 midday when Colm Feiritéar, who presents Ruaille Buaille on Highland Radio, will kick the fun off and get the craic going by officially launching the Lá Spraoi na Gaeilge.

The activities will be spread across different locations including the Library, Market Square, the Church of Ireland Hall, the Pastoral Centre Hall, the offices of Líonra Leitir Ceanainn and at Loreto’s Carpark. There will be events suitable for all age groups and the afternoon will provide an opportunity for everyone, both young and old to come together to celebrate and use the Irish language together. We encourage everyone to be ready to use whatever Irish they have while joining in with the fun. Beatha Teanga í a Labhairt!

Parking will be limited on the day close to the activity venues and people are, therefore, encouraged to use town centre car parks.

This is Teanga Tí’s third time to organise the annual Lá Spraoi na Gaeilge and we are very excited to welcome people to come, have fun and enjoy the Irish language as a family. Letterkenny, a Gaeltacht Service Town, is well known for the welcome it offers to Irish speakers with many families in the area raising their children with Irish or who have children attending a Gaelscoil. This afternoon will give all ages a chance to celebrate the language.

From start to finish there will be fun and games, music, workshops and more. There will be information stands to draw attention to Irish language services and supports available. We will have street entertainment with Giggles and Orson Sterritt, a circus skills workshop and a circus show with Stephen Mc Ginley, drama workshop with Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhrighde, a puppet show with Little Gem Puppets, storytelling with Suzanne Ní Ghallchóir, a dance workshop in traditional Irish, African dance with Tura Arutura and a lot more.

There will be a special event on the day when our special guest Seosamh Mac Seoin, a presenter with Cúla 4, will launch Clár Spraoi do Ghrúpaí Súgartha. This new publication is an à la carte activity book for play groups for children aged 0-3 which includes 120 activities across 30 themes. Written by Suzy Uí Ghallachóir from Letterkenny and who runs Na Tootsies Beaga, it will be a valuable resource for Irish language playgroups as well as families. There will be a workshop on the day with Suzy to give families a chance to try out the activities.

To top off the day, the newest game developed by Siopa Údar, Monopoly na nÓg, will be launched at the event. With sponsorship from COGG, an Irish version of this famous game is now available for children for the first time ever. It will greatly add to the wonderful range of Irish games that Siopa Údar has developed over the years and will be an excellent resource for teachers, community committees, youth clubs and families.

Should any group, Irish language organisation or Gaelscoil wish to have an information stand or host some other activity as part of the day, contact Sinéad Ní Mhearnóg Uí Ghéibheannaigh on 083 449 7443 or sinead@glornangael.ie or Bairbre Uí Chathail on 086 075 1663 or eolas@lionralc.ie
