(Béarla thíos / English below)
Na laethanta seo, tá tábhacht an phobail níos soiléire arís ná mar a bhí riamh agus muid uilig scartha óna chéile go fisiciúil. Tá muid ag pilleadh ar ár bhfoinsí, agus ceann de na rudaí a aithníodh i bPlean Teanga Leitir Ceanainn ná dea-thoil an phobail i leith na Gaeilge. In éineacht leis an phobal, beidh Líonra Leitir Ceanainn ag cur plean teanga i bhfeidhm, a spreagfaidh úsáid na Gaeilge i gcúrsaí oideachais, sóisialta, cultúrtha agus eacnamíochta an bhaile. Ó chainteoirí líofa go daoine le beagán Gaeilge, is léir go bhfuil pobal Leitir Ceanainn sásta úsáid na Gaeilge a mhéadú. Tarlóidh an méadú úsáide seo ar bhealaí éagsúla: feiceálacht na Gaeilge a mhéadú, deiseanna sóisialta agus cultúrtha a chur ar fáil agus stádas na Gaeilge a ardú agus a cheiliúradh. Beifear ag tacú le gnólachtaí, eagraíochtaí agus soláthróirí seirbhísí sa bhaile chun tuilleadh Gaeilge a úsáid, agus úsáid na Gaeilge mar ghnáth-theanga laethúil i Leitir Ceanainn a chur chun cinn agus a chothú. Is ar leas an phobail a oibríonn muid, rud atá i gcroílár an phróisis pleanála teanga.
Tá ceangal nach beag idir mianta an phobail agus an próiseas pleanála teanga agus mar sin, is é atá sa phlean ná fís an phobail a éascú agus a fhíorú: is plean s’agaibhse é. Cuirfear an plean i bhfeidhm thar seacht mbliana: próiseas mall, ceimnithe atá sa phleanáil teanga, agus beidh athbhreithniú leanúnach ag tarlú leis an phlean a athrú agus a eagairt de réir mar a athraíonn cúrsaí. Cuimseoidh sé gnéithe éagsúla den phobal agus gach léibhéal Gaeilge, ach ag díriú go príomha ar thrí mhór-réimse: daoine óga, teaghlaigh agus an earnáil gnó, le bearta bunaithe ar na trí réimse seo.
Tá díogras agus paisean an phobail lárnach sa phlean: le spreagadh inmheánach agus an freagracht roinnte, ní thiocfaidh ach rath ar an phróiseas pleanála teanga. Tá an-tábhacht ag baint leis an chomhoibriú, agus tá tionchar ag na roghanna beaga a dhéanann muid gach lá. Tá Líonra Leitir Ceanainn ar fáil le tacaíocht agus comhairle a thabhairt daoibh, leis an Ghaeilge a neartú sa phobal agus le freastal ar bhur riachtanais i leith na Gaeilge. Thiocfadh leis seo cuimsiú réimse rudaí éagsúla: ag tógáil clainne trí Ghaeilge, an Ghaeilge a úsáid ar bhonn sóisialta nó an Ghaeilge a dhéanamh níos feicealaí i d’eagraíocht nó do ghnólacht féin. Tá muid anseo le tacú libhse.
Tá deacrachtaí ag baint le himeachtaí a reáchtáil le linn na paindéime, ach ag brath ar shrianta an rialtais, beidh muid in ann tuilleadh imeachtaí agus deiseanna a chur ar fáil. Beidh ranganna Gaeilge, ciorcail comhrá, agus réimse leathan imeachtaí ar fáil, ar líne agus ansin as líne nuair ata sé ceadaithe. Chomh maith le seo, beidh an Líonra ag bunadh cultúrlann, spás fisiciúil don Ghaeilge agus do lucht tacaíochta na teanga i Leitir Ceanainn. Ach níl anseo ach tús leis an chomhrá faoin phlean teanga agus todhchaí na Gaeilge i Leitir Ceanainn: mar atá scríofa thuas, tá tuairimí s’agaibhse thar a bheith tábhachtach. Cad é do bharúil ar an phlean teanga? Cad iad na féidearthachtaí a fheiceann sibhse agus cad iad na himeachtaí atá sibhse ag iarraidh feiceáil? Seol aon cheisteanna, smaointe nó moltaí go bairbre.cpt@lionralc.ie.
Is féidir an plean ina iomláine a léamh anseo:
Letterkenny Community and the Irish Language Plan
These days, the importance of community is clearer than ever before, even as we are physically distanced. We are returning to our sources: one of the things recognised in the language plan by Líonra Leitir Ceanainn was the goodwill of the community towards the Irish language. Along with the community, Líonra Leitir Ceanainn will be implementing a language plan that will encourage the use of Irish in educational, social, cultural and economic contexts. From native speakers to those with very little Irish, it’s clear that the community in Letterkenny are want to increase the use of the Irish language. This will happen in various ways: increasing the visibility of the language, providing social and cultural opportunities and celebrating and elevating the status of the language. We will be supporting businesses, organisations and service providers in the town to use more Irish, and encouraging and sustaining the Irish language as a part of daily life. We work for the benefit of the community, something which is at the heart of the language planning process.
The wishes of the community and the language planning process are inextricably linked, and so the plan aims to facilitate and realise the vision of the community - it is your plan. It will be implemented over the course of seven years: language planning is a slow, gradual process, and there will be continuous reassessment to evaluate the success of the plan. It will encompass various sections of the community and all language abilities, but it will focus mainly on three sectors: young people, families and the business sector, with events and schemes based on these three areas.
The passion and energy of the community is central to the success of the plan: with internal motivation and shared responsibility, the language planning process can only succeed. Co-operation is incredibly important, and the little choices we make every day have an impact. Líonra Leitir Ceanainn is here to support and advise you, to strengthen the Irish language and to attend to your needs regarding the language. This could encompass a variety of things: raising your family with Irish, using the language in a social context or making the Irish language more visible in your business or organisation. We are here to support you.
Of course, there are difficulties with organising events during the pandemic, but depending on government guidelines we will be able to put on more events and provide more opportunities. There will be Irish language classes, conversation circles, and a wide variety of events online, and offline once it is allowed. As well as this, Líonra Leitir Ceanainn will be establishing a centre for the Irish language, a physical space for Irish and for supporters of the language in Letterkenny. But this is only the beginning of the conversation about the language plan and the future of the Irish language in Letterkenny: as written above, your opinions are incredibly important. What do you think of the language plan? Are there any opportunities that you can see, or what events do you want to see in the future? Send any questions, thoughts or suggestions to bairbre.cpt@lionralc.ie
