Tapaigh an deis An Cailín Ciúin a fheiceáil!

An bhfaca tú an scannán speisialta seo go fóill? Beidh sé ar fáil i Century Cinema go dtí 15 Bealtaine agus is fíu go mór é a fheiceáil. Seo a bhí le rá ag Muireann Mac Aodha, dalta Choláiste Ailigh, fá dtaobh de

(Béarla thíos faoi/ English below)

Ba é an Cailín Ciúin an chéad príomhscannán Éireanach ag Berlinale, más mall is mithid. Tá an scannán faoi mar atá sa teidil, cailín ciúin, Cait nach bhfuil mórán aire tugtha di sa bhaile lena teaghlach mífheidhmiúil. Caitheann Cáit an samhradh le gaolta a máthair mar chlann altrama. Tugann siad aire mhaith do Cháit agus éiríonn sí níos áthasaí mar gheall air ach faraor ní i gcónaí mar a shíltear a bhítear. Cuirtear téamaí na hóige, tuismitheoireacht agus ag atógáil clainne os ár gcomhair.

Bhí an t-ádh linn i gColáiste Ailigh, cuireadh craoladh speisialta ar siúl dúinn agus bhaineamar go léir an-taitneamh go deo as. Mholfainn go mór an scannán a fheiceáil agus ná bí buartha níl an Ghaeilge riachtanach, tá fo-theidil leis!

Ach ní muidine amháin atá ag ceapadh go bhfuil an scannán seo ar dóigh, is iomaí gradaim atá bainte aige, ina measc 7 IFTA agus bhain sé An Grand Prix agus Duais Speisialta an Ghiúiré Idirnáisiúnta sa Roinn ‘Generation KPlus’ (daoine óga) ag an Berlinale – Féile Scannán Bheirlín le deanaí agus gach duais tuillte go maith aige.

Tá an scannán seo scríofa agus stiúrtha ag Colm Bairéid agus é bunaithe ar ghearrscéal ‘Foster’ le Claire Keegan. Is iad Catherine Clinch, Carrie Crowley agus Andrew Bennett na príomhaisteoirí. Is scannán galánta é seo, agus don chuid is mó de, tá na carachtair ag labhairt trí mhéan na Gaeilge!

Feicfear An Cailín Ciúin, a rinneadh faoi scéim TG4 Cine4, ar scáileáin 'Century Cinema' ar an 12 - 15ú Bealtaine 2022 agus is fiú go mór dul le hamharc air agus ná déan dearmad an bosca ciarsúr sin a bheith leat. Beidh sé uait.

An Cailín Ciúin is the first Irish language film at the Berlin Film Festival - and better late than never. As the title suggests, the film is about a quiet girl, Cait, for whom care is lacking within her dysfunctional family. Cait spends the summer fostered out to a relation of her mother's. They look after her well and Cait becomes happier but unfortunately not everything is quite what it seems. We are presented with themes of youth, parenting and the rebuilding of a family.

In Coláiste Ailigh we were really lucky in that a special screening was put on for us and we really enjoyed it. I would really recommend seeing the film and don't worry about the Irish as subtitles are provided!

We aren't the only ones who think this film is great, it has already won many awards including 7 IFTAs and it recently won the Grand Prix and the International Jury's Special Prize 'Generation KPlus' (Young People) at the Berlinale - the Berlin Film Festival - all well deserved.

Colm Bairéid wrote and directed this film which is based on the short story 'Foster' by Clare Keegan. Catherine Clinch, Carrie Crowley and Andrew Bennett are the main actors. This is a beautiful film and for the most part the characters are speaking in Irish!

An Cailín Ciúin, which was made under the TG4 Cine4 scheme can be seen in Century Cinema from 12 - 15 May and it is well worth going to see but don't forget the box of tissues - you'll be needing them!
